Tharindu Perera – York CC announce new Junior Section Head Coach

York Cricket Club are pleased to announce, with immediate effect, the appointment of Tharindu Perera to the newly created Club role of Junior Section Head Coach.

Tharindu is an ECB National Level 3 Coach with considerable experience in Junior coaching and a BSc Hons Sports Coaching Degree.

He played First Class cricket with the Singhalese Sports Club in Sri Lanka, under the Captaincy of Marvan Atapatu and Mahela Jayawardene, both former Captains of the Sri Lanka National Team, before relocating here to England and settling in Yorkshire, where he has further developed his coaching by establishing the Ceylon Cricket Academy as well as working with Junior age groups at the Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Junior Section Chairman, Mark Burn said ‘ We are absolutely delighted to have secured Tharindu’s considerable coaching experience, to further enhance and develop our successful Junior Section. ‘

Club Chairman, Nigel Durham confirmed ‘ Mark and our Head Coach Jim Love, with whom Tharindu will liaise closely, have worked very hard to secure Tharindu for the Club and we are very much looking forward to working with him. ‘

The Club’s Junior Section have been training indoors at St. Olave’s and St Peters since early January and are looking forward to moving outdoors after Easter when they will be joined by Tharindu, who is supporting the existing Head Coaches within each of the respective Under 9 / 11 / 13 and 15 Age groups, as well as taking direct responsibility for the U.17 to U.21 Age Groups, to ensure there is  continuing player development and a smooth transition for those moving from Junior to Senior cricket.
