York U13 B Vs Acomb – Match Report
District League Div 2. Sun 3rd June Acomb : 88-5 York B : 90-6 York Win by 4 wickets On an overcast morning the B Team continued with their winning run in Division 2 with a 4 wicket victory after chasing down the visitors- Acomb’s score of 88. The winning runs coming off the last ball of the match.
Batting first Acomb made 88 with Archie Pye retiring on 30*. York gave 9 outfielders a bowl and wickets were taken by Callum Aitken with 1, Oliver Chesters with 1 and Bertie Schofield with 1. York were well served by both captain Josh Ellis and by Billy Urwin who kept for the first time.
In reply York made a blistering start with Henry Budgen and Josh Ellis adding 59 for the first wicket in only 9 overs with Henry retiring on 30* with 5 fours and Josh out for 22. From here the young York team found the going much harder against the Acomb bowling and fielding. York just keeping up with the run rate to give themselves a chance but Acomb kept taking wickets to keep their chances of victory alive. The game entered the last over with York requiring 5 to win, a wicket and a couple of tight singles left 3 needed off the last ball. U11 Oliver Chesters kept his nerve to hit the final ball for 4 to win the game ably supported at the end by Barnaby Roberts.
It was a great game played in good spirit by both sides- with both sets of players learning much from such a close game. Congratulations to the whole Team especially those U.11 Players debuting and covering for absent Squad members.
